Akureyri is situated in North Iceland, about 400 km from the capital Reykjavik.

Travelling to Iceland
Keflavík International Airport is Iceland’s main transportation hub, with direct connections to all Nordic capitals. International travellers can book a single ticket to Akureyri with Icelandair, connecting via Reykjavik. Multiple daily flights operate between Reykjavik and Akureyri year-round.
A few direct flights between mainland Europe and Akureyri are also available. Options can be checked on the website of Akureyri Airport
Travelling domestically to Akureyri
- A flight from Reykjavík Domestic Airport to Akureyri takes about 40 minutes. The domestic airport is located close to downtown Reykjavík, so travelers arriving at Keflavík International Airport must first travel to Reykjavík. Airport buses from Keflavík are synchronized with flight arrivals.
- Car rental offices are located at Keflavík Airport. Driving to Akureyri via Route 41 through Reykjavík and then Route 1 takes approximately 5-6 hours.
- Public bus route 57 operates between Reykjavík and Akureyri, with one to two scheduled departures per day.
Accommodation in Akureyri
Participants need to arrange their own accomodation and we encourage people to secure accomodation early.
A number of rooms at three hotels has been reserved (not booked) and we also encourage participants to book these rooms early since the reservations will expire.
